We all had a blast getting a little wet during Field Day at Centennial Park. Pictured are some 5th graders getting soaked by our Cañon City Fire Department.
Mr. Mike Near, a Cañon City Schools board member, was our most recent guest reader. Each guest reader shares his or her favorite books and how reading influences his or her chosen career. Thank you Mr. Near for sharing your love of reading to our 5th graders. 
We had an assembly for those who collected money for Jump Rope for Heart. We raised over $5,300 for the American Heart Association. Those who raised the most money in each grade and one of their friends got to be served a fancy lunch by our butler (Mrs. Stephens). Check out the photo album.
We had a great turnout for Literacy Night! Parents learned about Literacy Circles and reading strategies they can use with their children. Mr. Bray, a CCHS teacher, entertained us with some great juggling acts. Here are some pictures.

McKinley Elementary is located in Cañon City, Colorado. Cañon City is surrounded on three sides by mountains. The Arkansas River flows through the town affording some great whitewater rafting. Cañon City is also home of the Royal George Bridge, the highest suspension bridge in the world!
